Splurge Day Delight

Discovering I didn't have to give up my favorite foods when losing weight brought total joy to my existence. Once a week and one meal only, I delight in my delectable meal and eat it slowly. This week it was on Thursday when Mr. Grumble returned from being a children's camp counselor and we celebrated his return. For me, it was Pizza Hut's personal pepperoni pan pizza and Blue Bell's Southern Blackberry Cobbler ice cream. I was craving pizza and this particular flavor of ice cream. It is becoming one of my favorites. Mr. Grumble liked it too!

Having these meals once a week has helped me stay the course. It gives me something to look forward to and I don't feel like I'm missing out. Most weeks, Mr. Grumble and I enjoy these delectable meals on Thursday at dinner time. My favorite is surf and turf and most of our splurge meals include this selection. Mr. Grumble cooks New York strips with shrimp. We have a nice salad, baked potato, fresh green beans or other veggies as sides along with pita bread. I savor every bite and take my time. If you eat it slowly, you get full faster and don't over indulge.

Depending on my craving for the week, when we go out to eat, I still try to be mindful of portion sizes. For instance, if I order a bacon cheeseburger on my splurge day, I get the small fries or onion rings. Also, Mr. Grumble and I have shared meals or sides. If I get the bacon cheeseburger, that is all mine! I will share sides, but not that! I waited all week for that deliciousness!

When friends invite us over for dinner, I have made that my splurge meal for the week. Getting to enjoy their cuisine and company is a well spent experience. I have had a couple of friends who know that I am trying to lose weight and they have accommodated this in their food preparations. I am always thankful for that, but is not necessary. Spending time with friends is always worth spending my splurge meal on.

Most people when trying to lose weight think they have to eat healthy the whole time and that is not true. They get those cravings and BOOM, back to eating poorly full time! So, enjoy these meals and eat it slowly. Delight in every bite and smile. You worked hard eating healthy all week!

1 Corinthians 10:31- "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
