Journal entry for 5/23/24
When I joined Noom, there was one particular thing that brought a huge frown to my face. You have to weigh every day... The last time I hopped on a scale, it said a number that was rude and I threw it in the trash! Scales and I don't get along and when you are trying to lose weight and you hit your first plateau, the frustration is real! About six months into the program, the first one hit. It lasted almost three months and the scale would stay around the same numbers. It went up or down by a few pounds FOR ALMOST THREE MONTHS! I tried eating a bit less and exercise more. I tried everything and the scale wouldn't budge. I did notice my clothes getting looser, but it wasn't showing on the scale... The scale doesn't tell the whole story of what is going on. I was losing inches in my waist and all over. That was encouraging, but the scale!!! Eventually it moved and I was in a groove.
Plateaus happen and there is nothing you can really do but wait them out. Many people give up on losing weight when they hit this road block, but it will pass. It may take days, weeks, or months, but the scale will move again. I had to tell myself to stay strong and keep fighting on. Keep eating right, exercising, and staying the course. My coach told me to add more protein to my meal plan and less carbs. I am in my second plateau (which has lasted about a month) and the scale finally moved. For about a week of this month, the scale read the same number. Yesterday, it finally said two pounds down. I was thrilled and may have done a little dance in my closet where the scale is! Today, the two pounds were back...
I am beginning to see a pattern forming in my journey to get healthy. About every ten to twelve pounds, I am most likely going to find myself trapped in this cycle. I have been through them before and will continue to battle my way through this setback. My hormones are a factor in this and why my plateaus are taking so long, but they are not going to get me down. I have worked too hard to let these break me. Reaching my goal is what motivates me and being healthy for my family. God gives me the strength to keep going when the going gets tough. I got this!
Philippians 3: 12-14- "Not that I have already obtained all of this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
